RVIA ID Number help

Looking at a used 2003 28' R-Vision Trail-Lite class C and trying to establish a fair value, but I don't know a lot about the options that are on it. The VIN does not specify. I have the number off the RVIA badge by the door. Is there a web site where I can enter that number and get any information?

  • There is not much difference in a base 2003 TrailLite vs fully optioned to make a significant difference in market value at ten years or older. If you are trying to check off boxes on a NADA or Kelly web oage, there is no consistency in how the information is used, most of what is on the list of options was standard equipment.

Fair value of a RV that old depends a lot more on current condition, than whether the air conditioner was standard equipment or part of a mandatory "option package" at time of original sale. I used to have TraiLite brochures from 2004-2006 but tossed them a few years ago when the parent company folded.

No web site to get the information. TrailLite should be able to get a build sheet from the final vehicle VIN (not the chassis VIN) if those records were not "lost" with the Monaco Corp bankruptcy.

There is an on-line NADA that will get you into a ballpark http://www.nadaguides.com/RVs. Many that post to these forums will tell you to ignore the options since used options do not necessarily add value unless you can be certain that all are 100% in working condition. Many of the values shown are nothing more than a depreciated value from the manufacturers suggested retail price (MSRP).

There just is not enough sales and dealer networks to reflect actual sales. From actual sales, you can then develop averages. Automobiles are different as there is a Ford, Chevy, or Chrysler dealer in almost every town. Next time you are driving on the expressway, see how many auto's you see versus how many RV's you see.
  • Thanks. Was hoping to make an offer and close the deal tomorrow, but if I make it till Monday, I will call R-Vision.
