Sea Foam vs STAY-BIL?

I've never used Sea Foam, only STAY-BIL for a fuel additive during periods of low usage of our gas MH. I'd appreciate your thoughts on these products. Is Sea Foam more of a gas treatment vs use as a stabilizer?

Thanks to all for your ideas!
Bill
  • Seafoam is a cleaner AND a stabilizer. Stay-bil is only a stabilizer. For a little bit more money why not clean the fuel system while putting it away for the winter is my motto.

A few years ago I read a comparison of Sea Foam v/s Sta-Bil. at that time Sta-bil was only one formula, same for SeaFoam

The consensus was that SeaFoam worked well with adulterated gas (E-10) but Sta-Bil... Not so good, it did not play nice with alcohol.

Today I see Sta-Bil has a special formula for Adulterated Gas (Gas-ahol)

SeaFoam is what I put in my tank when the engine blew in 2014, and the generator still starts just like it did in 2014.... I'm hoping to get a new engine SOON. in fact I'm bugging the mechanic, theory has it he should be ready tomorrow but he keeps making excuses.
  • SeaFoam was originally designed as a fuel stabilizer for marine applications.
It also has light duty cleaning properties.

But if Stabil has been working for you, why worry ??

I don't know how SeaFoam ranks as far as a stabilizer but I do know that there are MUCH better products for fuel system cleaning.

And I tend to trust companies more if they do NOT claim that their product will do 14 amazing and wonderful things. I prefer the right tool for the (one) job.
  • Seafoam will work as a stabilizer too. In my personal opinion, it's the best, but I'm sure there are arguments for and against. I've had great luck with Seafoam in practically all my internal combustion engines for years. My motorhome probably sits the longest between fillups, and so far it cranks and runs like a sewing machine. In fact, I was able to make the genset run (it was clogged up with old fuel varnish) without replacing the carb when I first got the coach by soaking the bowl and float and running raw Seafoam through it. Now, it runs like a charm and I keep 1oz/gallon of gasoline in every fillup.
  • sea foam is a cleaner I use it in four boat motors and around the house, I use stabil for the winter months. when equipt sits for months not in use.I,ve never had a fuel problem.
