Security systems

I am a first time motorhome owner. We bought a used Country Coach and want to install a security system including the storage doors. What are good options? I looked at Simplysafe and Fortress.

  • We are newbies, only been camping since 2005, but we have never had a problem. We stay in State, Federal, nice private, and some of the diciest private places you could imagine (you know the ones where none of the "motor homes" could actually motor).

    Maybe we are just lucky?

Still we do make sure everything is locked up tight when we leave and we have a ferocious YorkiePoo that weighs all of 9 pounds to defend the place.
  • I kinda agree with Roy - with one exception. As full-timers, we don't/can't take everything valuable from the rig and put it in the truck or car every time we leave for the day (laptops, Kindles, fire safe, hot-spot, etc.). We have good, full-coverage insurance with USAA, take reasonable security precautions (use a locking cable on the carry-out satellite antenna, don't leave stuff out, have a higher security replacement door lock, etc.), and try not to worry about it. The only things we've lost so far are things we've missed packing and left behind! If/when it does happen, we'll just file a police report and call USAA.

The problem with security systems is who is going to be around if the alarm goes off... If it is an silent alarm then you have the same problem...

I would just have good replacement insurance and don't ever leave anything valuable to you in it unattended...

When we are camping all of our really valuable to us items are kept in our truck...

I guess a motorhome contained unit is alittle different in this respect...
