To boondock in the National Parks in Arizona, you still need to purchase the Tonto Pass which may negate most of the savings you're seeking. Unless, of course you're simply looking to get away from the crowds. The best "free" camping in the area is off Thousand Trails Rd. as RV2Go indicated. Dead Horse State Park is in Cottonwood, a short drive to Sedona. Finally, make sure you check local codes for parking near Sedona/Oak Creek Canyon. IIRC, they were pretty restrictive given the tourist mentality of the City....Dennis
