I can only speak of the site near Joshua Tree. Just north of I-10 on the west side of the road.
I am not going to tell you that you can dump and get water at the Joshua Tree, Cottonwood CG. :B - WyoTravelerExplorerBack in the 60s I boone docked all over the Indio area. It was all desert and the little town of Indio. Now it is wall to wall houses, shopping centers, and huge RV parks where the snow birds come for the winter. By the night many of these parks run about $55. I doubt you will find much boone dock camping in the area now. By the week we got in fo $44 a night. A little cheaper by the month. The city of La Quinta next door to Indio ( can't tell where one ends and the other starts) is quite large. The old days are pretty much gone unless you go further east towards AZ.
- 2oldmanExplorer IICasinos. I was at Fantasy Springs yesterday, and the last few times I've been there I see the same rigs. It appears they let people live there.
Cahuilla County Park. It's paid dry camping. - nina_70ExplorerLast we were in the area we did find boondocking in the Mecca Hills Wilderness Area. Just a tad away from Indio, but easy driving distance.
Otherwise I second Cahuilla County Park... - Roy_LynneExplorerThere are a lot of places further south around the Salton Sea between Indio and Yuma.

Is there anything available in the Indio area?
Thanks much.
If your heading east towards Arizona, down Willey's Well Rd. just pass the Bradshaw Trail crossing there is a small rustic campground (Coon Hollow/ BLM) and a little past that is open boon docking, the way in is graded dirt road.- bigdoggerExplorer IIThere is a reason every decent residential area and RV park in and around Indio is gated with private security.
- dtappy3353Explorerthanks to everyone who responded.
We chose Indian Water here in Indio as I have gotten sick.
Am better and will be heading home to Casa Grande. Will stop by Quartzsite and stay a few days.
Thanks again. - wintersunExplorer IILooking around this area for a stopover on trips to and from CA and AZ the only place I found was in Anzo Barrega State Park to the south.
