Back in the 60s I boone docked all over the Indio area. It was all desert and the little town of Indio. Now it is wall to wall houses, shopping centers, and huge RV parks where the snow birds come for the winter. By the night many of these parks run about $55. I doubt you will find much boone dock camping in the area now. By the week we got in fo $44 a night. A little cheaper by the month. The city of La Quinta next door to Indio ( can't tell where one ends and the other starts) is quite large. The old days are pretty much gone unless you go further east towards AZ.
