My overflow also goes right to the ground so unless something bursts, no water will get inside any compartments in the RV.
One problem a lot of coaches have is that if you fill the tank to the top, and shut off the incoming water hose, water will siphon out of the fresh water tank through the overflow hose. This has been known to drain about a third of the water out of the tank on to the ground.
