If it's anything like my Tiffin, you're fine.
I have both the switch to change from City Water to tank fill, and on the panel, it clearly states to open the fresh water gravity fill. I too walked away, and not only was the water coming out the vent, but the fill. After shutting the water off, it still spilled out for a few more minutes, so I suspect the tanks may have slightly expanded, but have no long term issues.
My old 5th wheel did not have the gravity fill port, only the city water, or I'd use the winterizing port to fill from a jerry can type tank. I worried all the time that the small overflow wouldn't be able to handle the intake if coming from city water.
