Selling Class A

I have not been able to visit this forum for some time. I lost my husband in November and as you can imagine taking care of his estate.
The last thing, I need to do is to acquire the updated payoff on our unit. And determine trade-in value.

I need the best course of action. My question is has anyone had any experience with the ads seen in MH magazine wanting to buy motorhomes.
So if you have any info regarding selling or trading please give me your insight.
Thank you so much.
  • It is best to do the transaction at your bank and deposit he money there at the time of the sale for your protection. The banker will do the paper work for you making sure that all is proper.
  • Sorry for your loss too. Sounds good that you are trying to think things through without rushing.

I bought and sold several RVs, cars, boat, on Craigslist. Have no experience with MH magazine. You will likely get more money from a private sale than trading it in (or consignment) with a dealer. You just have to determine if you want to spend the time and energy to deal with showing the RV to potential buyers.

What I did when selling is first talk extensively on the phone to the interested party to determine if they are really serious about my particular model. I didn't want to waste time with lookey loos. Once I determined they were serious, I arranged a time to drive the RV over to a large public parking lot, like Walmart or Home Depot, to meet them. This is if you don't want people coming to your house (if the RV is parked there.)

Make sure the inside is neat and clean, and people will love it, if they are already interested in that manufacturer/model/layout/size.

I dealt only in cash. Sometimes I and the buyer met at a bank and then went to the DMV together (not necessarily needed, but in one case it was convenient). Or I just took the cash and handed over the title. Or one time I took half the cash. Later that day, I stopped at a bank to make sure they were good bills (without buyer knowing), then drove the MH over to the DMV to meet the buyer, who by that time had the rest of the cash. Just depended on my gut instinct about the buyer. I listen alot and ask alot of questions.

Lots of ways to sell. As mentioned, there are also other online avenues like RV Trader, etc. Just be careful of scammers if you do private sale. Use common sense. Best of luck to you!
  • Those advertising to buy motorhomes will do you no favor. They are looking to buy extra cheap to make maximum profit
  • I'm very sorry for your loss, and commend you for looking into the future to continue RVing.
    Re your question....
When we were trying to sell our DP quite a few years ago, we contacted one of those companies. They offered us around 60% of NADA. It was a pretty bad lowball offer. We ended up selling to a private party from Canada for much, much more, on CL.
If you are not interested in selling private party, ( which can be a daunting task ) maybe consider a local consignment lot or PPL in Texas.
If you would consider a private party sale, try RV Trader, RVT, and CL.
Best of luck to you. Stay strong and keep motoring. If I lost my hubby, I would change to a small Class C also.
