SF-42 Suburban Furnace

My furnace started acting up to where the fan runs for a few seconds, but will not ignite.

Now I realize that it could be several things wrong that would cause that such as the board, sail switch and overload module.

What I want to know is how do I pull this furnace out to test it on a work bench. Does it come out through the outside or inside. It seems like there are several ducts attached to the furnace which are almost impossible to get to IF I have to disconnect them or do they stay attached and you just pull out the inside part.

Any advise is appreciated.

See if you manual is there.
  • AFAIK, both the small furnaces and the heat pumps are removed from outside. The ducting can usually be pulled far enough along with the furnace to gain access allowing them to be disconnected. Sometimes, the ducting can be accessed above and pieces travel along with the furnace as it's removed.

But I've only done it once, a Suburban, where I was able to access the ducting tubes above under the closet floor. I've read how to do it on a heat pump floor furnace and in both cases, you should have a stand or table ready to place the furnace on, once it's pulled out a little. Propane turned off of course, along with AC & 12V.

    Good luck!
  • Do you have:

An exterior access panel with intake/exhaust ports
    OR
Just intake/exhaust ports in the side of RV

Just ports....then furnace is accessed/removed from inside rv

    Access panel with ports....remove panel
  • Before you pull it check your propane pressure. Mine, a SF 45 wouldn't ignite and would go through the 3 cycle of trying. Turns out low propane pressure due to bad regulator.
