Shade Color

Well I've decided to take the plunge and purchase a Magna Shade. Have had a Prompt in the past but it occasionally comes loose and has scratched the front a bit. My shade in the past is a light tan color. The Magna Shade salesman says black is the best color for heat control. I'm struggling with this. He showed me data in high heat showing the difference between the shade temp and inside. I feel that the black color will always gather heat. My light color shade doesn't get that hot in high heat and allows very little heat transfer. I'm wondering if he's using this example just to show a general blocking of heat with the shade. It just seems to make sense that a lighter shade will draw less heat and still block the transference. What are your thoughts.
  • Black works for us, too. Our window stays cool. Also, you can see outside better with black or brown rather than light colors. Objects are crisp in detail.
  • One I noticed when looking for shades is the lighter colors seem to mess with the view from the inside, don't know if it is reflection or what but our black MCD shades work great and look great too. First time I put the windshield up Cheryl was standing in the front area watching and she said she could feel the temp drop as they went up across the windshield.
  • Sun Tex

Phifer does not seem to differentiate sun control levels by color.

Take a look at the SunTex stuff and maybe call their customer service.
  • Black and dark colors absorb heat while white and light colors reflect heat and no matter what a salesman says but is it possible that the dark material blocks more light? Might just prevent the sun from heating up the interior as much if it blocks more light
  • In what little I know about the comparison, a white car is much cooler sitting in the sun than a black car.... Seems simplistic to me.
  • Mine are black and work as well as the beige ones I had on the Dynasty. I don't think it really matters.....Dennis
