We shampoo our carpet once a year. Be frugal with the soap and rinse twice. Once you're done, use some old car wash towels and dry any wet spots around the edges. Lay the towels down and walk on them. It only takes a few minutes to do a little extra drying with some towels.

I then turn on some fans and open windows.
