Shaw direct in Florida

Hello folks...

Next month my wife and i are going to Panama city Florida.

As we use Shaw Direct as Satellite antenna i would like to know the Elevation Azimut and Skew we are going to use down there?

I have had a look at DishPointer online but it is hard to immagine i will have to set the Skew dish at 35 degrees...i'm sure this is wrong
Please help

Robert
  • It is no more illegal for a Canadian citizen to receive the Canadian programming in the US than it is for a US citizen to receive the US programming while in Canada. I am not sure where this rumor started but it is quite prevalent on these forums.
It is illegal for either to "steal" this signal without paying.
  • Shaw can't/won't help you since it's illegal to receive the signal outside of Canada. From what I understand the old satellite still covers the lower 48 and parts of Mexico, but you need a quite large dish, 90 cm or 3 foot. Their newer satellite signals are a lot more Canada only.

  • Thanks folks...

And yes Shaw Direct (star choice) still beam there signal to USA...for how long we do not know.
    Thanks again
  • Using Dishpointer with a location of Panama City Florida and Starchoice multilnb at 107W and 111W gives me readings of 46.5 elevation, 224.3 magnetic azimuth, and skew of 115.1. But does the Shaw beam pattern allow you to get a signal that far south away from their broadcast area?
  • You need to call Shaw to see if they beam the signal below the border. Most Sat providers spot beam their signal to a specific geographical area. Dish and Direct cannot get programming in Canada and Canada Sat providers do not broadcast to the lower USA. One of the problems is getting the Elevation and Azimuth to "hit" the Sat beam. There is the curvature of the earth that prevents that signal no matter how up or down you point the dish. Doug
