If we are going to be gone overnight we turn water off and water heater on vacation. If you have seen the damage a broken pipe can do in a matter of an hour or two you will turn it off. My son had a water hose for his washing machine break while the family was home. He was in his office rest of family sleeping. Ran unnoticed for nearly two hours. Thousands of $'s in damage. A neighbor had a water leak on line to his house while he was gone for a weekend. Undermined the whole side of his house causing big bucks to fix. Just do it and you will never be sorry.
