Up north if you shut it off, you also need to winterize the pipes. Don't forget the dishwasher and the ice maker line etc. Your house will get below freezing so you need to make sure there is no water in the lines - tank of toilet, bowl (rv anti-freeze is good). If you don't winterize, then you should shut it off but leave heat on at a low temperature and have someone checking the house.
