Yes you can put a higher g.p.m pump in it but I think you have a air leak and a new pump won't solve that. Also there is a pressure valve screw on that pump but I can't remember if you turn it clockwise or counter it could be stuck. I would play with that a bit it helps if you have some one to turn faucet on and off while doing it if in a hard to reach place. Another thing you can slip a hose on the suction side and fill a 5 gallon pail see what happens. Had a friend that had a bad cracked pickup tube in the fresh water tank done the same thing.
