sick of shower door problems

I am so sick of the shower door. It has been a problem since day one and we complained and complained and finally when it is no longer working at all the so called warranty has run out and we find out Forrest River has gone with a different door. I am seriously thinking of taking the whole thing out and replacing it with a shower curtain.

The door slides on a curved track and there are 5 panels of glass with flexi rubber between each. The trouble is it keeps coming out of the upper and lower track and now the wheels are breaking.

Thoughts? Suggestions? I can't be the only one with these problem doors. What have you done to solve the problem?

  • This is my shower door - glass door with a bump-stop above the bathroom door (the black thing sticking out from the wall) that is across from it. A quick rinse with the shower head at the end of each shower keeps it clean. I like it better than a curtain.

    There's your fix.

Those shower doors are notorious. If it's not the hooks at the bottom disengaging from the track, the wheels at the top are breaking. It's a horrible design. You can pull the entire thing out in about 10 minutes, install a shower curtain rod and shower curtain and your problems are over.

We have one about like that in the Jayco. It's by Irvine Shade and Door in Elkhart. I'll agree with Ron. Invites skepticism but actually works quite well. We wipe it "dry" then finish drying it with a little fan before closing it up. I think if mold ever started in those folds it'd be impossible to remove. The instructions on ours say to store it folded.
RV shower's fun. So small that a shower's all elbows and knees. To somebody in the coach but not in the shower, sounds like there's a fight going on in there.
  • Our motor home has this style shower door or curtian or whatever it is called. Inially I thought it was a little cheezie, but it actually works very nicely, seals well, opens nicely, closes nicely, stores nicely, and is easy to wipe clean with my wash rag when my shower is over. It happens to fit our shower opening near perfectly so the vinyl is near straight when the thing is closed. If not so, I might have a different opinion. This picture shows how it might be trouble in the shower, taking up some elbow room.

I don't know how well it would hold up with rough kids, dogs, etc.

  • Chigger,

I do not know about warranty laws in Canada, but I still hope you have good records. Because (in the US) if you complained about a warranty issue that was not cleared and the warranty expired, then that issue is still an "Open Issue" as far a the warranty is concerned.

KEEP At them to do the job right.

  • Check out pplmotorhomes.com they have a lot of accordion folding shower doors, they had one custom made to replace glass doors in a previous MH. Loved it and it was easy to get in and out of shower. Better than a shower curtain. Dick
  • So far this summer we simply haven't used it and it is taped in the open position so it can't fall while we are driving. We are heading out this weekend and thought about taking the door out and hanging a curtain from the track to get us through the weekend.

    That is what we did.
