Sitting on the cushion can give you an idea of how comfortable the actual cushions will be to sleep. The awkward part can be the split between the two cushions - there might be too much separation between them, or they might be at slightly different heights. As mentioned, a thick mattress pad or quilt might be enough to compensate if the separation or difference is minor.
