So let's recap, The question was about success/failure when parking at other than the usual spots. There have been two kinds of responses. The ones who have offered constructive ideas and warnings and I assume those are from folks who have experienced their ideas. And then there's the "just don't do it" folks who offer abstract reasons for their opinions because they have little or no experience at it and would never do it anyway.
If it is so wrong, where are all the failures? There's been no wave of arrests, rousting's, or angry people stories. After reading it all I am convinced that the vast majority of the time I will have no trouble at all picking places where I won't bother a soul. I am also aware that I will occasionally pick the wrong spot or run into a LEO that disapproves of my choice. But by causing no harm, stealing no services, and being quiet and polite, I should be able to survive the occasional mistake.
It seems to me it's about a deeper issue, the growing anti-RVism around the country. I think it's a real issue and I understand why some of you try so hard to get people to conform to a more accepted form of RVing. But it's a misplaced effort. It is not the RVer that parks in the church parking lot that gives RVing a bad name. It's the RVer who uses the churche's dumpster, or stays for 2 days, or parties all night.
It is and always has been a few idiots who ruin it for everyone else. But with RVs we can't win even if we had no idiots. RVers invade all the coolest places at all the best times and I can easily understand why non-RVers don't like us and continue to make it more restrictive.
