Slide lock won't budge

I really hope the day comes when I stop having problems I need to post about, but until then I'm super thankful for the help I get from you guys.

That being said, another problem has found me.

I haven't extended my rear slide for about a month due the the place I was parked not having enough room. Now I have room to do so, and the thing won't move. My rear slide has the electronic slide lock....a little arm that extends to lock the slide in place when it is closed. Today, when I hit the button to unlock it, nothing happens. Usually there will be lights on the control panel to indicate whether it is locked or unlocked, but they don't light up either.

Engine is running, Jacka are down, coach is level. The other slide works fine. What gives?
  • Yeah I have ran into a handful of problems since I bought this thing, but the good news is I've been able to sort them out without taking it to a shop and spending a bunch of money. A big reason for that is this forum. :)
  • Thanks and happy for you and sad for you. I love it when something workw that hasn't and I hate it when I don't know why Oh well you have it narrowed down to three or four things if it happens again.
  • Unfortunately the power gear manuals don't have any information about the lock mechanism.

And yes, I am positive it is locked. I can see the locking arm in place.

From doing more research, it looks like the lock may actually be made by HWH even though the slide out is power gear.

I JUST tried again. No luck. Then I flipped the battery disconnect switch off and then back on. I tried again and still nothing. Then I hit the "retract" button, I heard the motor try to move for a split second. I have done the numerous times before, but for some reason after doing it this time I was able to get the unlock button to work.

In the past I have had to push the retract button before the unlock button would work even though the slide was already fully retracted. For the past couple of days, this hasn't helped, however. I'm not sure if flipped the battery switch is what did the trick or if it was just being moody, but it worked today.

So for now, all is well......until the next time it isn't. :)
  • I don't mean to be insulting but you are positive it is locked? I have power gear and all my slides unlock from one button. I push the unlock and hear a sound of them unlocking. i am now wondering if the larger slides are actually locked from that switch or if it only controls the bedroom. I suspect from your post you have actually looked at the lock in the engaged position which I have never done. Where is it?
  • Here is the Power Gear operation / Maintenance manual for slide outs I found.

Sorry, not good yet at attaching links. Hopefully you can find something here to help or someone else will chime in that knows more about your setup.
  • Yes the parking break is also on.

    They are Power Gear slides.

In the past, I have always had the engine running while operating the slides as per the instructions.
  • What type of slides do you have? Mine will not move with the engine key on, but since you said the other slide works, I'm assuming that is not the problem.
