Slide operation...HWH

It's very cold this morning and I tried to retract the slides getting ready to travel and nothing. In the bedroom, pressed the retract button and the slide slooooowwwly moved in. Then my finger slipped off the button and it stopped. Pressed 'Retract' again and, nothing. No sounds, no movement. Tried extending. No movement. Went to the living room and tried the big slide, still nothing.

This happened a couple days ago, when it first got down to 28F. The next morning the slides wouldn't work. Waited until it warmed up a bit and everything worked on the slides again.

So my question: Do the '02 HWH wall slides have an issue with the cold? Or should I look for a defective part?

Thanks. I'm hoping I can leave today at 11 am. With the slides in.

  • A hydraulic pump with atf fluid, should work at all temperatures you can camp in

But a tracked slide with the wrong grease can get very stiff when cold

Can you normally hear the pump? Or not

I never hear the pump on the Safari, so it would be difficult if i had to diagnose hydraulic problems
It would take at least two people, one to go outside and listen the for the pump, one inside to push the button
  • Cold does not affect the operation of the HWH slide. Next time it happens operate the Jacks. IF the jacks operate, then you have an electrical problem with the slide control side. IF they do NOT work, you have an issue with the electric battery solenoids on the jack pump(first guess). Doug
  • The HWH on my 06 Itasca does slow down when we operate the slides in the cold. We never- never extend or retract the slides unless the engine is running and the batteries are showing 13.+ volts. HWH has told us the system only requires 9.7 volts, but Winnabego told us to run the engine. Experience has shown us to follow Winnebago instructions. Check the fluid level,
