Slide out length
How much wider than the slide out should an awning be? I have researched all about installing them, and would feel comfortable doing it myself. Looking at the Carefree brand.

I would aim for significant awning overlap, 4-6" if possible. This will keep rain off your slide-seals, at least if wind is not blowing the rain against them. The slides are usually double sealed, with an additional inner bulb seal.
