You have to be very careful with the slide topper since it is always under spring tension.
I used a sponge mop and alcohol to clean the top of my slide and then I took a 4" paint roller, with an extension pole, to feed the tape in from the ends. I sort of looped the tape over the roller and this pushed the tape down as I pushed the roller forward. Kinda tough to keep it real straight but it really doesn't have to be straight.
This sounds more complicated than it was but it saved me the trouble of taking the slide topper off.
