Slideout extended while driving?

If you are near an RV dealer or Camping world you might stop and ask them if they have any manual slide locks. We had a couple in our RV.

If anyone reading this posting has a hydraulic slide system, please check out my recent post.

Kalsbeek,you were right! I turned the motor break levers as you suggested and the slide's recessed levers now crimp the stationary sides. I was surprised how little the motor break levers moved - just a smidgen. The first time I pulled the slide in the recessed levers didn't move, but I then pushed the "retract" button again and they closed. The second time the slide retracted they work normally.

As far as I know they will not engage until the motorlock/s have engaged. In other words I believe one sets off the other.

My original post wasn’t sufficiently specific since many replies addressed the issue of the motor lock. “dougrainer” did figure it out: the rig has electric recessed lock arms at the front and rear of the slide. They are about six feet off the floor and, when functioning, crimp the slide to the stationary sidewalls.

Does this clarification change anyone’s opinion?

You can engage and disengage the motor lock at any point, except when the room is fully IN. When fully IN, the lock mechanism is kind of jammed and the lever is hard to release. The Point of the Electric motor lock is to keep the room IN TIGHT and allow manual retraction if the motor fails. The usual reason the lock gets released is because when people are removing or installing storage items they accidently hit the lever and it releases. A quick test to determine if your Brake lock is released is to retract the room and when it fully retracts, when you release the button, IF the room relaxes and goes out an inch or less, the lock is in the release position. When engaged, when you release the retract button the room will stay at that point. If you take the rubber boot off the end of the motor, you will see a metal indent that snaps in place to keep the lock tab from just working loose by itself. Doug

Much better than my idea. This gets my vote.

I don't think the OP has YOUR system. PG makes a variety of slide systems. The OP stated BOTH front and Rear locks will NOT engage on his unit. YOUR system just has the electric motor brake Lock ON the motor. So, the OP must have the electric recessed type lock arms at the front and rear and THEY are not opening to close the upper lock pads. Regardless, Slide systems "can" extend slightly while in motion if no positive lock system is used. BUT, the most an electric system will extend is less than 4 inches if the electric motor type system fails or is unlocked. I have NEVER heard in at least 25 years of slide systems, of a slide fully extending in transit from a malfunction. The BEST override is the 2 X 4 method, not the curtain type rods. The metal is not rigid/strong enough to hold a slide that wants to move out a few inches. they will just collapse and bend. Doug
