I've spent the last 4 years in Lake Havasu City, AZ. at the Beachcomber RV Resort out on the Island. My best friends dog contracted Valley Fever inside the RV Park. We also had a friend of ours die from Valley Fever in the Southwest (AZ.) Our Vet in LHS Dr. Buckman, told me his clinic treats 1 dog a week from Valley Fever. Valley Fever is breathed in from spores in the dirt that can live up to 1' in depth. When the wind is blowing the spores are blowing. In humans it effects and can be fatal to anyone who has a low immune system. I was walking my dog late one night in the Beachcomber and almost stepped on a 4' Rattlesnake. The Game Dept. had to come out and remove it! One of the biggest predators of dogs in the Southwest is coyotes!
