The small C's also leave towing options too. Most C's come with a 5000lb hitch that I wouldn't dare use because the things are so overloaded before you even put anything in, but with a small c that doesn't have a slide, you've got a lot more room between your dry weight and GCWR to play with.
A small C will not be overloaded if you purchase one that meets both of these criteria:
1) Be sure and get one only on the Ford E450 or Chevy 4500 chassis. You'll have plenty of extra capacity to spare on weight carrying, braking, and engine/transmission cooling.
2) Be sure and get one without slides. Just get one built to the widebody (101 to 102 inches wide) configuration for a nice roomy slide-less feeling inside and you'll have plenty of extra weight capacity to spare.
That's what we have for a mechanically reliable (due to it being on the E450 chassis), easy to drive, easy to park, easy to heat, easy to cool, easy to get into intimate small campsites, and easy to take offroad (if you want) little Class C that drives like a van. We have taken it on 7,000 and 9,000 mile trips and do not miss any room in it and were not even particularly anxious to get home at the end of these trips. We have a big grin on our faces everytime we travel in it in just about any weather and any time of the year!
