Smart alternator
Did 2008 Coachmen freedom express come with a smart alternator? Has anyone upgraded the dc to dc charger on this RV? Suggestions on make/model?

its not just because of the "smart alternator" that people use DC to DC chargers. it is more for proper charging algorithms for the deep cycle or LiFePO4 batteries. the other reason is more for trucks pulling or hauling campers as the factory wiring is small so you are limited on your amperage with out voltage drop. I am not familiar with motorhomes, but I would assume they put larger charging wires from the alternator but that's something you could always check.
