So many parts. So little space.

Do you have a list of "spare parts" you like to carry in your RV?

Joyce and I will be heading out in our new Minnie Winnie soon. We previously used her parent's Type B, and her dad, being the mechanical engineer he is, had spare parts tucked into every nook-and-cranny. (Even with all that, we still broke down with a radiator leak.)
I'd like to be prepared, but I can't see going down the parts list and bringing everything that'll fit. I'd just like some "better" idea of what some of you currently bring along; belts, bulbs, fluids, etc.
I've never considered myself a "motor-head" (no insult meant), but I have done oil and brakes and points/plugs ( and even dropped a trany on myself while changing a pressure plate). But, I don't have any testing or diagnostic equipment.
So, what is a "GOTTA HAVE IT" list of spare parts?
Thanks.
  • It seems like, the more parts you carry, the less likely you are to ever need them.
  • Basic things to have in the motorhome - screwdrivers (slotted , phillips, and square head)- fuses - pliers - multi electrical tester - batteries (AA, AAA, D - what ever you use) - flashlight - tape (both electrical and duct) - small hammer - and can of motor oil.
I carry most of this in a plastic shoe box sized container that fits in the storage area under the dinette seat.
You also need , as others have said, a roadside assistance membership.

The only 'part' I carry is an extra serpentine belt.

Everything else can be purchased at a local parts store or local camping store where you travel.

    Tools:

    1. Craftsman socket set.
    2. Robo Grips

    3. Hammer
    4. Screw Gun
    5. Box of those stupid screws they use everywhere in an RV.
    6. Roll of white duct tape so you don't look like a red neck while traveling to get fixed what broke that you had to tape.

Full Time on the road for over 7 years now and have had no problem getting what I need when I need it and the 6 tools listed above have been able to fix whatever needed fixin!

    Less IS better. :C
  • Basic tools as said before, mine is a Craftsman set in a case I bought for about $70 on sale. Plus I carry:
    • Ryobi 1+ 18v drill/driver, bits, flashlight, handheld vac, 2 batteries and charger.
    • Wire ties, wire crimper, connectors
    • Tape: duck & electrical
    • Needle nose, slip joint and diagonal pliers
    • 12v Jump start with built in compressor
These are the tools we had in out B+ for our Alaska trip in 2013
  • I agree with TNPIVERSIDE, either get AAA Roadside Assist or Good Sam and enjoy your trip. Happy Travlin
