This is not only a good report but a reality check. My conclusion after 8 years is that if you are retired, are mechanically inclined to perform maintenance and repair yourself, buy a older well depreciated MH, and you use the MH a lot I think it makes financial sense. Short w/e camp outs cost more than a car hotel trip, but once you get over 7 days a MH is cheaper. Case in point when I went to Alaska I spent about $10,000 for 90 days or about $100/day. Hotels alone would cost that plus air fare, food etc. If I look at the total life cycle cost I paid $30k 8 years ago put $10k in repairs and maintenance and use it about 90 days/year. If I use full depreciation that adds $55 per day to the cost of ownership. So can you travel for $155/day with airfare,hotel rental car, restaurants, admissions, gifts etc? Does my analysis make sense to anyone or am I trying to justify this expensive hobby?
