Solid fiberglass roofs and king beds

Hi again, I received so much good info on my last post I thought I would get some more opinions on my next area of doubt on a future upgrade from gasser to DP. I had an older 34 ft gas RV that had a solid fiberglass roof and it was always streaking gook down the sides. I tried polishing with a number of different things but none worked real well. I thought maybe the P.O. had neglected his roof maintenance. This time I bought a 2 year old gasser with a TPO roof. This roof system has me nervous. I have a friend who has a 2 year old 5th wheel with the same roof and it started bulging up while a long way from home and eventually was flapping so bad he had to use perma bond tape to get it to a dealer to check it out. He had to replace the entire roof and of course it was "just" out of warranty! He went with a better replacement but spent a bundle. SO...... I am now looking at rigs that have solid fiberglass roofs again. Is there a site somewhere that lists all the rigs that are solid fiberglass or do I need to look each manufacturer up ? Do any of you DP owners have a TPO roof or have any streaking from your solid roof ? Same question with King size beds. I am looking at +/- 5 year old rigs and they don't seem to have any rhyme or reason as to bed size. It must have been an option as most models are not King. Thanks in advance. Ken
  • Our Newmar, like the 2 we previously owned, has a BriteTek roof. It's a form of TPO. We have never had any type of streaking issues with any of them. If we were buying again I'd buy another BriteTek roof in a heartbeat.

IMO picking a quality brand is a lot more important than picking the roof material first. We have friends who've bought brand X because "it has a fiberglass roof" only to learn not all fiberglass is made the same and having a fiberglass roof doesn't always mean quality.
  • I always pick the roof material first. if rubber, no thanks, but would consider a TPO but prefer fiberglass.
