Then go down on the frame and install a good quality pump and inline filter that you can easily access. Did this on our 83 Ford E350 van and never had another problem. Personally I love your KISS approach to the issue, however your 1983 Ford was carbureted, my 1994 Ford is fuel injected and has very different fuel pressure/feed requirements then your carbureted system. On my earlier thread a poster discussed an inline pump on his fuel injected system and its simple enough to install that I'm almost thinking of hooking one up and trying it out. The thing is I want to put the danged problem to rest. I find driving these behemoth's is stressful enough without worry of unplanned engine shut-down in the back of my mind.
