Some question regarding in-tank fuel pump replacement

So, all y’all have me convinced that my engine problem, explored in the earlier thread titled Unexpected engine failure (shut down) 1994 Ford 460 V8, is a bad fuel pump. I’m not sure which route to go...

I believe there is a pleated paper filter around the in-tank pump. If you can put up with the bother of possibly having it die on you in a very hazardous spot, then go for it. I know that working from home base is a lot easier that trying to do it on the road.
