Some question regarding in-tank fuel pump replacement

So, all y’all have me convinced that my engine problem, explored in the earlier thread titled Unexpected engine failure (shut down) 1994 Ford 460 V8, is a bad fuel pump. I’m not sure which route to go...

The advantages of in tank is that the fuel cools the pump and the fuel line is pressurized which helps prevent vapor lock. EFI requires 35-40 PSI and if you pull that much vacuum the boiling point will be very low. Add altitude to the mix and you will have problems. Best to replace the in tank.
Can you cut a hole in the floor? My tank was under the bed.
