South Florida - Class A Maintenance shop advice.

Hi all

I’m looking for a class A shop for mechanical service work engine etc for a 40ft with caterpillar engine. Doesn’t have to be an Rv place but want an honest shop who can do some minor major service work ,

The other guy who would be great is a mobile Rv service guy to replace the seals on a 3 slide out a class and other general work around south Florida.

If I cannot find anyone has anyone had work in loves or flying j or fleetwood shop

  • OK, you are right around the time Caterpillar changed from grease zirk on the fan hub to sealed bearings. If greaseable, you need to VERIFY that it has been greased (access from the bedroom).

To see which you have, call Caterpillar Corp with your engine serial number: 877 777-3126.

Also, ask if their records show a valve adjustment. If done by a Caterpillar dealer, the corp should have a record of that.

If not, you are due for your first valve adjustment. ONLY from someone who works on the 3126 for a living-- NO OJT!
  • 78k 2004 just had fluids and belts changed by previous owner. Also greasing of the chassis points, new alternator and air ride system, waiting on the inspection to come back
  • And, letting us know exactly what work you want done may help with suggestions.

    How many miles on it?

What service history do you have on it?
  • Thanks Wolfe, maybe Texas is a place to have it serviced when on our trip. I was reading over cat engines and looks like some school bus have cat engines also. I will see if someone in Miami ft lauderdale posts comments of a shop also
  • You do NOT want to go to an RV dealer for engine service work.

House systems-- maybe or look for a mobile tech.

And, many of the mobile techs can do basic engine maintenance (oil changes, belt changes, filters, etc).

For something "inside the engine" like a valve adjustment, I would only go to a Caterpillar tech.
  • Thanks Larry will get the chassis details when I speak to fleetwood checking the brochure • Freightliner® Chassis
    • 330 HP Caterpillar® Engine

Haven’t picked up yet as waiting on the inspection.
  • I'm not sure, but I suspect you have a Spartan chassis. Here are two companies in south Florida who are associated with Spartan chassis, one on the east coast and one on the west coast.

  • Hi Larry it’s a 2004 fleetwood discovery 1 owners same family, with belts and fluids changed regular inc winterizarion
Has just had the air bags changed and alternator 77k miles. Not a south Florida motor home and in great shape. Any input appreciated from you all is always appreciated
  • There are Cat facilities in many locations, but unfortunately, Cat distanced itself from their aborted attempt to supply engines to the RV community shortly after they abandoned the RV business due to pollution issues. You may get lucky and find a Cat facility that will work on yours, but beware of the charges.

Tell us more about your RV. What manufacturer? What chassis? It may be better to go to a facility that services your chassis. Examples would be Freightliner and Spartan.
