Now don't get me started on the all to common practice of selling Motorhomes without a spare tire. :M It would seem to be very common as well as absurd. We just bought a beautiful 2012 Nexus Class C, only 6,200 miles but no spare in sight. I'm thinking a few hundred bucks and I'lll be all set, just call the local tire guy and order tire and wheel. WRONG!I cannot begin to imagine how many E350 one ton Ford Chassis' are out there running everything from airport shuttles to ambulances and of course RV's but you think anyone can find me a wheel between Tucson and Phoenix....Nope. My local RV supply and repair shop, All RV, is trying to chase one down for me and it looks like it will have to come from the Ford dealer, can't wait to hear what that is going to run.In the last four years we have had 3 flats and one serious blowout while running trailers so I have no inclination to travel without a spare. How many of you folks drive a motor home with no spare? Once I get mine I will be upgrading my bottle jack and jack stand to handle the additional weight, already have a decent torque wrench but may need to upgrade the portable compressor to handle the 80 psi Michelins as well. I know a lot of folks will say just call ERS but if the tire blows what do they put in its place? :h

When I ordered my 2014 Chateau on an E-450 chassis, the spare added $400 to the price. It came with an off-brand tire of the right size and load range and my Michelin. It is mounted underneath on an A-Frame piece of steel to hold it up. I had two tires blow on my 5th wheel west of Gila Bend and the additional tires cost my $400 and were 8 years old by the date code and a less load range. What could I do, I was in the middle of the desert. I will also carry a jack and breaker bar, but I will rely on my free road service from GS, Ford, or Hartford. I will use the breaker bar to beat up on the hungry coyotes.

go to the ford dealer and buy it your self . or a goodyr store should be capable of this job.

Maybe you could try a salvage yard for the wheel.

The rear inner wheels can be taken off and used on the front.Our rig only weighs loaded 10,000 lbs, so one rear wheel is OK.In your post you wrote about 80 pounds tire pressure. We run larger 235/85/16 tires inflated to 55lbs rear and 65lbs front. The larger tires and less pressure helps smooth out the ride.Check out my post on about E350/450 wheels. Clicky... And oh yeah... The above two post that talk about trailer tire flats has little to do with Class C tires. Search my posts for threads about the punishment I put our Rig through. Never had a flat. (Smiley face with fingers crossed crap)

OP asked what ERS replaces failed tires with.I've had several failures on the road, and ERS brought a replacement tire and mounted it each time.

X2, same here! The 5th wheel frames are junk! TT frames are better.
Motorhome frames are stronger. They are not made by Lippert as 5th wheel frames are.

OK, all done.... for now. :B Had the spare installed and the total for the wheel, tire, mounting rack and 6 valve extenders - all installed came to $300. :C

Yes I will be putting a stainless steel cable and a healthy padlock under the cover (still have to get that....) it is always something. :S Thanks again one and all for your usual wealth of knowledge.

When we purchased our 2011 Sunseeker, one of the sales people told me there was no spare or jack. When I got it home, I was looking underneath for a low point drain and low and behold, the spare was under the rear of the coach below the water tank.

Once again thanks everyone for all of the good info. I never seriously considered going naked.... as in no mounted spare. My local tire guy found me a wheel for $100 and I ordered another Michelin so the spare will match the other 6. I am having them add valve stem extensions to each wheel and will top off the duallies with my Tire Trakker sensors. I will order two more the front.

Got a heavy duty bumper mount for the spare at La Mesa RV for $33. Last stop today will be Harbor Freight for a 6 ton bottle jack and matching jack stand. I'm not concerned about the bumper supporting the weight of the spare, here are a couple of shots of the bumper/Reese 5,000# tow hitch. They are bolted to the chassis with 6 - 3/8" bolts. This thing is literally built like a tank. :B

We were members for over 30 years, with the last 6-7 years since we've had our Class C motorhome being a Premier membership.

A couple of months ago we had a flat on our RV - right in our back yard - on an inside tire of one of the rear duals. The dispatcher said they did not cover changing of the inside tire on duals - because you're supposed to be able to drive on the remaining tire to get to a repair facility!!!!! They sent a truck to our house anyway, and the driver agreed to change it ... we were lucky.

That was enough for me. We now have Coach-Net Premier ERS coverage. With their Premier coverage all of your other vehicles are also covered - and of course they take care of dually flats on motorhomes ... plus other advantages over AAA Premier ... and at less $$$ per year than AAA Premier ERS coverage.

By the way, I stated "California" AAA because AAA coverage can vary state to state and region to region. I believe that Coach-Net coverage policies are uniform throughout the U.S. and probably in Canada too - since Coash-Net coverage includes Canada. I wanted coverage to be the same regardless of where we might be.

There is a couple of posts with long lists of RV salvage stores, I would bet there is one near you. You might find one with a tire.

You can't get ERS to even come to many campsites ... plus in many campsites you can't even get out with your cell phone. And here's a gotcha ... we recently had our ERS say they would not cover changing of a rear inside dual on our motorhome ... we dropped them in a hurry. You might want to make VERY SURE your ERS does cover this if you have a rig with (side by side) duals.

It's best to always carry a spare, have it inflated to the highest pressure you use on your RV's tires, and carry full tire changing equipment along ... just in case. This is no different than what should be done regarding all other vehicles you own.
