Spider web cracks on fiberglass front cap

I have a couple of spider web type cracks on the front fiberglass cap. Any suggestions on how to repair them? Can they be left as is for the winter and deal with it in the spring?

  • Could be cracks in the fiberglass. More likely, just cracks in the gel coat. Gel coat is much more brittle than FG. It is also harder and shiner, which is why it is used.

First step is to take it to a shop that does FG work-- boat yards come to mind.
Have them determine what is damaged. Gel coat can be ground down and redone and guys familiar with doing this can get a pretty good match.

If the FG is cracked, more will have to be ground out and re-fiberglassed with mat/roving.
  • If they are just the light surface kind not a problem and just leave them.
