Spray foam Insulation Under Cab

Hello Campers! Took my RV to a local HIGHLY recommended shop to get their opinion about the poor airflow in my 2007 Ford E450 Winnie Outlook. He said that he has seen rigs come in with Spray Insulation under the cab area...under the cab. He said he sees it once in a while when he puts the RV up on the rack. WHAT A GREAT IDEA! SPRAY FOAM INSULATION 'UNDER' THE CAB AREA - UNDER THE FLOOR BOARD THAT GETS SO HOT! Question is now, what type of business do I call regarding that type of work? Does anyone out there have info or experience spray foaming the underside of their cab area for engine/header heat insulation? I would love to know!
  • I also have the exhaust close to the floorboards, but my pipes have exhaust wrap. I don't notice heat from the floorboard, but I definitely feel heat coming off the doghouse. I am thinking of putting in some flexible hose to get a ram air effect when the rig is moving and help move air around the engine/headers.

I would recommend you try some pipe wrap first and see what kind of results you get. The next thing I would recommend is a header blanket. That would be intended to take the high exhaust heat and seems more safe to me. Spray foam will stick to everything it touches, possibly hold moisture and cover up wires/hoses, etc. A header blanket could be tied into place with some galvanized wire and easily removed if you need access in the future.

Don't think improving airflow is the objective. I am thinking the purpose of the foam insulation is to help with the heat generated and coming up from underneath the floorboard. My Class C floor gets really warm.

  • You probably have the correct forum. Give it some time and someone will reply.
