Sprinter Tires

After 40,000 hard miles on the original Continental tires, I figured it was time. Six new Michelin LTX M/S 2. So far just driving west from Albuquerque I can tell the ride is quieter and smoother. Steering is as good or better, no surprises. The old tires were not "Worn Out", but it was time. The tire shop had all the wheels off when they discovered the steel valves would not fit Sprinter wheels. The best they could do is brass ones that are shorter than the originals that made airing up the tires hard enough. So, when I get home I will need to get new valves or maybe extenders. One advantage the new valves have over the old ones is that they don't squirm and squiggle when you try to get an air chuck on it, that is if you can get to it. Also, I have 64 PSI all the way around and seem to be just right. Any recommendations on tire valves and air pressure for the Michelins?

  • Get the Borg/Tire Man metal extended valves. They make them for Sprinter wheels.
  • We just bought a Sprinter RV and I called TST yesterday for advice on how to attach my TPMS sensors that were used on our previous TT. They referred me to "Always Shiny Wheels and RV" and I ordered valve extensions that attach to the hub. I'll post an update after I see how well they work.
  • we have a 2007 leisure travel van,, mod freedom serenity II just love it. it sits on a 3500 series chassis. I,ve had A,s C,s and a B , would not go backwards.
  • midnightsadie, Do you have a Sprinter rv? It would be nice to know what you are driving in your signature or at least in your profile. Sprinters have a specific issue with valve stems that most other makes do not have.
  • We have 10,000 miles on our Via so we do not need new tires, but I keep the air pressure at 65 psi on the front and about 62 psi on the rear. On our diesel pusher we replaced Goodyears with Michelins and were very happy with them. Interesting comments on the steel valves, and I would like to here more about that subject from others. It is a pain to check tire pressure and add air, and currently I am removeing the wheel covers to do this. I am concerned that valve extenders are prone to leaking.
