Sprinter tow bar wiring

Anybody wire in a tow bar harness??on mine I have 12v gg to lights but when I connect the wires with the 12v onto the light it doesn't turn on and when I measure the voltage on the light it's not there,if I take the wires off the light I get the 12v back??? Does any body have any ideas?.thank you
