I can't help you for March, but we have a place in the Keys and am pretty familiar with it. Key West is definitely a really fun place but I wouldn't stay further up than the 7 Mile Bridge in Marathon if you plan to travel to KW very often. It's no fun coming home at night and having to drive through the Key Deer area (slower speeds) in Big Pine and then crossing the 7 Mild Bridge. Too many fatalities on that bridge.
If you can snag a coveted reservation at a state park, Bahia Honda is the closest to KW. They are booked the minute they are available for booking, which is 11 months out. If you try 11 months and one minute, all the sites will be gone.
Our Rv lot is on Cudjoe Key (mile marker 23) so it's very close to Key West. We go there often and always have a blast.
We rent our lot out when we aren't there, so check it out it you might be interested in December and January. Our fees INCLUDE the Florida 12.5% bed tax, most others don't.
