The hand drawn diagram is for a Freightliner chassis and uses a diode to eliminate the exhaust brake feeding the brake light circuit. It might be worth a try if you can identify the correct wires.

Fred, that was nice of you to point that out, thank you! I did see that the other day, printed it, and I'm going searching back there with a test light over the holiday to see what I can see! The problem with an exhaust brake, you can only get it to come on rolling down the road, so it will be trial and error.
