Steering problem

I have a 1994 Itasca 34 foot with chevy chassis I replaced the power steering pump because when I step on the brakes and put it in gear I loose steering. Put new pump on still the same problem also noisy pump like air I have no problem just turning the steering wheel alone. Was thinking about changing the hydro booster it may be by passing in side has any one had this problem?

  • The Hydrobooster has a large screen in it that can become gummed up with debris. But, it can be cleaned out too. But then the question is, where did the debris come from? I have also heard the screens can break up from age.

There are also 3 large 'O' rings that can need replacement. It's not at all difficult to work on, but put a catch tub under it if you pull it apart. I left mine in position mounted on the frame, removed the MC, and then pulled out the guts.
  • I think you are in the right direction going after the hydro booster.
