I have been reading your post since you started this project. Really cool. In 1990 my wife and I bought a 1977 Dodge hippie "custom" van. We turned it into a camping van. We added all kinds of creature comforts and had some awesome, great trips in that van. We never had a gas heater. We always had to be in a camp ground and have shore power for heat. But, we had roof AC, microwave, ice box, TV, porta pottie, the back was a bed with storage underneath, a small closet and some cabinets, etc..
The thing we loved about the van was the freedom to take off with no planning. We could decide to go and walk out, start her up, hit a grocery store on the way out of town. We have a class A now. We love it too but, it's a little more work to take off. We try to keep it ready to go though.
Enjoy this time. Youre making some great memories for yourself. One day you will look back on this build with fond memories. The last minute over nighters were probably the best part for us. We live about an hour from the Blue Ridge Mountains. Man we camped all over those things just because we wanted to.
