They really help on bumpy roads, crossing railroad tracks, grooved pavement...dampens the effect on the steering. Many have claimed they helped when a front tire blows out...I've never had that happens so can't speak to it.
I've never understood this---------and I had a front tire blow out this summer at 67 mph. There was no jerk to the steering wheel due to the steering gear (worm) and power steering. Although the MH moved to the left a bit, it was not a problem correcting the direction and moving to the shoulder.
