Since you are talking about charging the 2 chassis batteries. You state, never gets above 12.3 to 12.5. 2 things come to mind.
1) bad alternator (sorry) does happen
2) loose/bad serpentine belt
3) battery, for the battery to cause this it would have to be shorted.
If you have a BCC, it is the BCC which will connect the chassis to the house batteries. For that to work the voltage needs to be above 13.5 volt DC.
So, I do not think it is an over-loaded alternator.
