- chuckftboyExplorerI'm an A/C contractor, we purchase dry nitrogen to pressure test and leak check air conditioners but we don't use it in our truck tires. At 10 dollars per tire, I can see it would be quite profitable but then, I don't have an issue with a business trying to make a profit. I for one, know that the government takes 40% of every dollar those people make. If someone pays them $10 for nitrogen, so be it. I've seen people pay $2.50 for a 16 oz. water and no one complains.

Same here. I'm a shop owner. Nitrogen doesn't leak out as fast and pressures remain more consistent. We charge 5 bucks a wheel. If you don't want it, don't buy it. It's your $200 tire. If it runs low on air, we can get you another one. I run it in all my vehicles. - jfkmkExplorerThat's one funny video! He kinda states it the way it is. I topped off the tires on my wife's car with good ole air, but I still put the green caps on. I hope the nitrogen police don't catch me!
- pconroy328ExplorerI too say it's not a scam, in the sense that everyone who's touting it is trying to intentionally steal your money. My car came with N2 and green valve caps. No big deal, I just put air in them myself when they're low.
IMHO the benefits of N2 are small for car owners and maybe smaller for RV owners. - allbrandautoExploreras a auto shop owner I see cars come to my shop every day with tire pressure light on when it gets cold outside tire pressure drops with cold air and increases with warm air nitrogen is more consistent pressure do I put it in my veicles yes do I think its a scam no
- theoldwizard1Explorer II$10(A) a corner !!! Darn profitable scam !
- Chum_leeExplorerA few years ago a "nitrogen salesman" approached me in the RV park where I reside for the summer. He tried to hand me a pamphlet saying, "Sir, would you like to talk about the benefits of using pure nitrogen in your RV tires?" I responded, "I have a masters degree in chemical engineering." (I lied, I don't!) The salesman said, "Oh!" He took his pamphlet and moved on never to be seen again.
Chum lee - Yes a nitrogen bottle comes at much higher pressure than the shop compressor.
But if you have ever emptied a 250 psi shop compressor you know a lot of water comes out and makes the air quite dry.
Just fine for RV use. But you will not get a sticker and a check ($$$) from the nitrogen supplier and sponsor. - sailor_louExplorerThe ideal gas law (PV=nRT) applies to DRY air equally as it does to DRY N2. As the others have identified, it's all about the moisture content and in a MOHO, it's insignificant.

I caught that too! I guess that's why the cars cost so much. :)
As azdryheat stated, it's the lack of moisture in the nitrogen that should get the credit. NOT the nitrogen.
