Storage/Maintenance

I'm still looking but once I get a coach I will be keeping it somewhere, probably, uncovered. So, for those who do not store in an enclosed facility or under a roof of some sort, how and where do you store your unit?

Currently I have an older 27' Class C that is parked in my yard but there are a few reasons why the next one (Class A) won't be parked here.

Many trees, pollen, leaves, etc. - very dirty. Also a larger Class A likely wouldn't fit so I will be looking to store it somewhere else. Do many people use covers for their coach when it sits?

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks.

  • Storage yard I keep mine is an all gravel lot (great for tires). It also means water/dampness do not remain sitting under RV for extended periods.

    I also put a cover (Adco)on it after a good wash/wax.
  • We have one of those metal roof carports 12'x32' right next to the house for our MH. Very helpful when it comes to UV damage. Trees all around so pollen and pine needles and small bits/pieces of all descriptions are always an issue but just have to keep up with cleaning.
  • Ours stays in our driveway next to the house plugged into shore power during camping season. During winter, we rent a slot in a covered outdoor storage place...not enclosed, but at least a roof overhead to prevent snow buildup. She gets dusty, but that's washable. If she stayed in the driveway all the time, the roof gets so nasty from trees, it's almost impossible to clean. Did that the first season we owned her....won't do that again........

I have a nice cover someone gave us and have never used it, after I figured out what was involved in putting it on and taking it off every time I wanted to go camping. I guess they figured that out too and decided not to use it!
  • If you live somewhere that has a lot of wind, a flapping cover can really wreck a paint job over a few months....

If there were inside storage within a reasonable distance of our home I'd use it. but there's not so the Banana Boat III either lives uncovered in our driveway or in an outdoor storage lot. many people have reported scratches caused by covers.
  • Outdoors and next to my barn. Wash it when I go.

It's kinda like the girl said when the guy ran naked through the park. It was no big thing.
  • I live North and East of Indianapolis about 40 miles and there are lots of storage facilities in my area. I see everything in those storage facilities, all types of campers, from pop-up to mega billion dollar motor homes. Some are covered, some are not. There's no set pattern.

I live in the country, so I see a lot of RV's parked in yards around where I live. Very few are covered during the Summer months, but about 50/50 are covered over the winter months.

I also live in farm country and there are several around that are able to park their RV's (of every sort) inside barns, sheds, and carport style shelters.

There's really no rhyme or reason or logic. It's just a matter of what each person has available and how much effort they want to take into taking care of their RV's. Cover or not cover also depends upon how much the camper is used too. If used every week, it's a royal pain to put it on and take it off every week.

Take your pickin's. Whatever works for you, do it.
  • My Winnie is covered whenever she is at rest. Here in SoCal its the sun that does a number on RVs.
