Having had both types I will tell you that I like the pass though better, even though it is hard to get under the slides. I like having the more room.
But let me tell you one problem with the attached compartments that hasn't been mentioned yet and that's clearance when opening the slide. Lots of times tight camping spaces will have objects along the sides like hose bibs, electrical boxes, shrubs, lights, decorative rocks, etc. Sometimes these things get in the way of opening the slides and even if you can open the slide then you still need a few more feet of clearance to open the compartment lid. With my current motorhome I find myself opening the slide over the top of these obstructions that would have caused issues for the previous MH.
