I have a friend who swears he tried it and the cement killed his battery. However, I don't think he knows how to tell when the battery is fully charged. I left my batteries indoors on cement for a few winters and I don't think it caused any damage.
I am also wondering why a dumb, low current maintainer causes trouble.
I now leave my batteries in the MH, disconnected, and check the voltage every month. I top them up if below 12.6. Have to remember to take them out in the spring to check fluid level. Might be easier to store them in the garage if not exercising the tires over the winter.
I also have a little used vehicle that I use a trickle charger on because it isn't driven enough to recharge after a short drive. I have an automatic maintainer that is rated at 1 amp but has only 13 volts and only supplies an amp when the battery is quite discharged. I mostly use a home made dumb maintainer, just an old 1 amp wall wart that puts 14.5 volts on the battery and use it only when I notice the battery voltage is low.
