String size

I have Day/Night shades by Irvine Shade & Door Inc. and need to replace
strings. What size string do I get .9 or 1.4mm string?
  • We get our repair cord from The Dirty Blind Man website. Their site doesn't show what the thickness of the cord is, but Amazon sells the Dirty Blind Man's repair kits also. Amazon website says the cords are 1.5875mm.
  • HI
I have repaired many for friends....very easy to do.
Use a good kite string.....100lb test is fine.
    Good luck

    PR,
It's either 1.4 or 1.6, I forgot. But, in any case, I purchased 3,000 ft. of it on ebay for an outstanding price. I can re-string a couple hundred motorhomes worth of day-nights if I needed to. I've done all mine and I've still got about 2,900 ft. PM me if you think you'd want some. Its white if I recall.

  • FixMyBlinds.com Wrap a piece of your cord around a pencil 10 times. Measure the wraps end to end. They have have a chart that tells you what size to use. Of course if you can measure it in millimeters you don't need the chart.

They also have diagrams showing how the strings run through the blinds depending on the number of strings and number of springs. Also a video on how to do it. Just restrung one of ours with cord order from them and using their diagrams.
  • If you want it now just go to your local RV dealership that has a camping store, or any local camping store.

They now all carry a real slick day/night shade repair kit. Includes replacement strings, the plastic holders with the screw and comes in all the colors you need.
  • I bought a 1.4 at JoAnn's Fabrics. Works well but they don't have a variety of colors.
  • I've used the kits that I think we got from Camping World as well as redoing several with monofilament fishing line. I've found the fishing line works well since it is less prone to abrasion wear like string is and doesn't break as easily as a result. It also comes in various tensile strengths. Use the strongest you can find and you will have good results and probably never have another failure unless your knots don't hold.
